Revealing The Biblical Gospel Through The Studies Of "Mystery" In Pauline Epistles: A Case Of Prosperity Gospel

What is the gospel? Over the years, churches and Christians have been struggling to get this answer right. Since the first century, churches have been facing challenges to defend the gospel, many kinds of gospel have been introduced, and one of the most popular teaching in this era is the prosperity gospel. This new gospel emphasizes health, materially wealth and personally happiness. It is important for Christians to discern the gospel according to the Scriptures.In view of this, this thesis serves to research on the topic of gospel, especially from the perspective of Pauline epistles. This thesis will investigate particularly on the Greek terms μυστήριον (English: mystery), that were mentioned by Paul in his epistles. It is important to study this term in order to unpack the Pauline gospel. A total of eighteen occurrences of this term will be carefully investigated and explained. The content of the prosperity gospel will also be explored through the studies of its background and history. Lastly, an analysis will be made through a comparison between Pauline gospel and the prosperity gospel in the light of "mystery", in order to provide a clear understanding of the biblical gospel. Hopefully this thesis would be helpful for Christians to understand the biblical gospel more profoundly and hence to live out a biblical gospel-centered life....
